About Us

Reframe your financial future with TRW Financial

Welcome to TRW Financial! My name is Tyler Wagner, and I am an advisor and former CPA who specializes in finance and accounting for startups and small businesses in the US.

As a strategic and forward-thinking advisor, I provide freelance financial leadership and accounting services to help businesses unleash their maximum potential. With years of experience in public accounting, public companies, startups, and SMBs across multiple industries, I have the knowledge and expertise to deliver extraordinary results.

At TRW Financial, I take a process and tech-oriented approach to financial support, utilizing the latest tools and techniques to streamline processes and maximize efficiency. My unsweetened approach means you'll get honest, transparent feedback that you can trust, tailored specifically to your business's unique needs.

My goal is to help your business reach new heights of success. Whether you need help with financial forecasting, budgeting, cash flow management, or any other aspect of finance and accounting, I have the knowledge and expertise to guide you every step of the way.

Billing Structure:

I work on a retainer or project fee basis, which provides a transparent set of expectations and a defined scope of work for my clients. This approach allows me to deliver exceptional financial support without the constraints of hourly billing. With a retainer, my clients have the peace of mind of knowing exactly what services they can expect from me and what their financial investment will be. Whether you need ongoing advisory or controller services,  or just a one-time financial project, I am committed to providing the highest level of financial expertise and support to help your business succeed.

What does an ideal client look like?

I serve a wide range of businesses, from pre-revenue startups to those generating up to $15 million in annual revenue. I've successfully managed up to $30M in revenue (and a greater amount of expenses) across multiple clients. Most of my clients fall within the $5-10 million range, or have recently raised $1 million or more in pre-seed funding and are looking to scale quickly. I work closely with each client to understand their unique financial needs and provide tailored support to help them achieve their goals. Whether you are a startup just getting off the ground or an established business looking to take your financial operations to the next level, I am here to help you succeed.

I prioritize working with ambitious and respectful clients who are passionate about growth and success. I enjoy collaborating with talented individuals and teams with great ideas, and transforming good companies or ideas into great ones.

Have you ever been excited after interviewing a professional service provider, only to later find out that you were assigned a much lower level, inexperienced person who underwhelmed you and did not live up to the hype?

With me, what you see is what you get. I'm dedicated to working directly with my clients to deliver high-quality results. Rather than limiting myself to one company, I strive to work with as many as possible to drive positive change. When my capacity is reached or you need 1 or more full time finance experts, I can seamlessly hand off the work or help scale out the accounting team. I'm committed to maximizing my reach and impact, rather than being restricted by a 9-5 job.

I may occasionally employ the support of my own team members to manage repetitive or administrative tasks that can't be fully automated or fill in when I'm out of the office but the client facing work is almost always performed by me, ensuring quality and consistency.

What are the biggest differences between a full-time employee and fractional finance support?

  • Level of Experience:

    • Hiring a full-time employee often means paying more for their level of experience.

    • Opting for someone with less experience might fit into your budget range.

  • Idle Time and Cost Efficiency:

    • With full-time employees, you end up paying for idle time, as they're dedicated to your company even if the workload doesn't require it.

    • Fractional support offers cost-efficiency as you only pay for the expertise and scope of support you need.

  • Unfettered Access:

    • Full-time employees can be relied upon for sudden tasks and managing other employees due to their full dedication.

    • Fractional support may not handle day-to-day fire drills; hence, it's crucial to have a strong chief of staff, ops director, or CEO to manage such situations and steer the company's direction effectively.
